For July 11, 2020, our used car find is this 19k mile 2011 Mazda MX-5 Miata, which is listed on craigslist by a private seller in the Seattle area for $16,500.
Here’s what makes this car special.
The third generation Miata, dubbed NC, debuted in 2005 (as a 2006 model). Larger, heavier, and more powerful, it was something of a departure from the earlier NA and NB generations, and not everybody loved it, though it did win Car and Driver’s 10 Best list every year of its production run, through 2013.
For 2009, Mazda made significant improvements to both the engine and chassis, which make these later versions (known as NC2) even more desirable. You can read more about these changes in our article Which Miata Should I Buy? MX-5 Generations NA vs. NB vs. NC.
This outstanding example hails from one of the final NC years, and, in top-level Grand Touring trim, it includes all of the best features available on the NC, including a 6-speed manual gearbox and a power-retractable hardtop (PRHT), which is a marvel of engineering simplicity, adding just 70 lbs of weight and taking up no additional trunk space.
Essentially a one-owner car (it’s being sold by the son of the original owner), this one’s hardly been used, with not even 20k miles on the clock and a showroom-like appearance inside and out. We also think the NC looks great in this color, Stormy Blue Mica.
The asking price of $16,500 may sound high for a ten-year-old Miata, but it’s perfectly in line with KBB’s estimate for one with these miles and in this spec.
If you’ve been looking for a Miata that you can enjoy year round, a PRHT NC is a great choice, and this looks like one of the best ones out there.
