Here’s what makes this car special.
The Listing
Introduced in 2001 (as a 2002 model year), the Mini Cooper reimagined the classic Mini for the modern era. It was a hit, with demand outstripping supply for more than a year after launch, which led to notable dealer markups. This example comes from the final year of the generation, dubbed R50, which many consider truer to the original than the larger and heavier versions that followed.
The car offered here is pretty much exactly what you’d want from an R50 Mini: very low miles, a great color, a manual gearbox, and a clean two-owner history report. It also has an unusual number of options for a “base” Mini, including the Sports and Premium packages, the upgraded Harmon Kardon stereo, plus leather seats and a panoramic sunroof.
Though it would be preferable in S trim, which adds a supercharger to the mix, upping the power from 115 to 168 hp, the naturally-aspirated four cylinder present here can be plenty of fun if you don’t mind working the shifter.
The asking price of $6700 is reasonable for a Mini in this condition. In fact, with the exception perhaps of a Miata, it’s hard to imagine a more distinctive or enjoyable car for the money.
We don’t expect it to last long.
