The Listing
Lexus brought its second-generation GS to the US for the 1998 model year. The rear-drive sedan offered BMW-like engines with Mercedes-like refinement and of course Toyota levels of quality and reliability. It was a major success, selling over 30,000 units in its first year and being named to Car and Driver’s 10Best List from 1998 through 2000.
This well-kept example in distinctive Cinnabar Pearl paint benefits from the GS’s 2001 model refresh, with updated styling, new side curtain airbags, and additional wood trim in the cabin. Under the hood is Toyota’s venerable 2JZ-GE inline six, making 220 horsepower and powering the rear wheels through a 5-speed automatic gearbox. This used GS doesn’t appear to need much other than perhaps a good detailing. The price seems reasonable, if a touch high, considering the miles and condition. But we’d recommend getting a professional pre-purchase inspection by a Lexus mechanic prior to purchase just to make sure everything’s as good as it looks.
Being offered by an estate could complicate the transaction, but we wouldn’t let that worry you too much unless you’re in a major hurry. Think of it as a way to get to know the car a little better before the deal is finalized.
