2005 Volvo V50 T5 Wagon with 6-speed Manual

For September 1, 2021, our used car find is this clean 2005 Volvo V50 T5 wagon with a six-speed manual gearbox. It’s offered on Craigslist by a private seller in the Eugene Oregon area for $6500 or best offer.

Here’s what makes this one special.

Introduction

The Volvo V50 wagon replaced the aging V40 for 2005 and ran through 2011. The compact wagon hails from the Ford era at Volvo and is based on the versatile Ford C1 platform, which also underpins the Ford Focus and the Mazda 3. Those are both excellent cars, but the V50 builds is arguably the best of the bunch, especially in T5 trim (as here). Opting for the T5 adds a host of luxury features plus Volvo’s punchy turbocharged inline five cylinder, which makes an impressive 218 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque.

Shortly after the V50’s debut, Car and Driver called it “a sporty small wagon now with enough power, features, and style to truly compete with the Germans.”

The Listing

This example is exactly what you’d want to find in a used V50. It has under 100,000 miles, just two Pacific Northwest owners, and a clean and original appearance inside and out. Most importantly, it boasts a six-speed manual transmission. A quick, compact, manual wagon is a rare find in today’s world of hulking SUVs — and it was pretty rare back when these cars were new. The vast majority of V50 buyers opted for the automatic.

In the words of the seller…

Solid and safe car, we are the second owners. It has power seats, heated seats, power windows, power mirrors, power moon roof, AC, CD player, fog lights, cruise control, steering wheel volume control, stereo, floor mats, rear custom cargo mat, cargo cover and divider, rear arm rest with beverage holder, clean in and out, no rips or tears in seats, the only issue with the car is the headliner is starting to sag. The exterior is straight.

There’s not much to find fault with here. The seller notes the only flaw as a headliner that’s just beginning to sag. We also see some slight wear in the black leather seating surfaces, which is typical of Volvos of this vintage. Otherwise, it’s about as clean as they come.

We think the $6500 asking price is about right considering the miles and condition. Once you throw in the rare manual gearbox, it’s starting to look downright cheap.
