For August 3, 2021, our used car find is this 2005 Acura RSX Type-S hatchback with 45k miles. It’s offered on Craigslist by a private seller in the Spokane area for $16,000 or best offer.

Here’s what makes this one special.

Introduction

Though its name has changed, the RSX is the fourth generation of the Acura Integra, Honda’s upscale, sporty hatchback, which debuted in 1986 and has long been a winner among enthusiasts and commuters alike for its great balance of fun and utility.

By this fourth and final generation, which first appeared for the 2002 model year, Honda had pretty much perfected the idea — particularly in Type-S guise, which added a high-revving VTEC engine capable of 200+ horsepower, a terrific 6-speed manual gearbox, as well as wheel and suspension upgrades.

In its RSX road test from 2005, Car and Driver noted, “For all-around use—an ‘everyday sports car,’ as Acura calls it—the RSX is tough to top.”

The Listing

This particular example comes from the penultimate year for the RSX, for which Acura made some notable updates, including an engine tune upping the horsepower to 210, suspension tweaks for sharper handling, as well as cosmetic revisions inside and out. It also sports one of the best colors: Milano Red, which adds some needed pizzazz to the somewhat nondescript RSX styling.

In the words of the seller…

RED Sporty, well kept 2 door hatchback stick shift. No accidents. Garaged and regularly serviced. DVD and cassette player.
Continental tires. Light gray leather perforated seats. Front bra and cargo liner included.
We are second owners purchased in 2006 with low mileage. Very fun ride. Cash only.

With such low miles, a two-owner history, and a like-new appearance, this RSX has to be one of the specimens on the planet. If there are nits to pick, we’re not seeing them.

Prices for nice RSX examples have been on the rise lately, particularly for Type-S versions. Earlier this year, an 83k-mile 2005 Type-S sold on Bring a Trailer for $12,500. That makes the $16,000 ask here not entirely unreasonable, though we still think it’s a touch on the high side.

If you’re pursing this one, we’d advise a thorough inspection of it prior to purchase just to make sure everything is as good as it looks. Assuming it all checks out, we think anything under $15,000 would be well bought.
