For July 19, 2021, our used car find is this 2001 Lexus IS 300 in rare Solar Yellow factory paint. With just 60k miles on the odometer and looking like new inside and out, it’s got to be one of the nicest first gen IS examples out there. And it’s priced accordingly. It’s offered on Craigslist by a private seller in the Los Angeles area for $18,750.
Here’s what makes this one special.
The Listing
Lexus launched the IS model in the US for the 2001 model year, a few years after it originally debuted as the Toyota Altezza in Japan. A BMW 3 Series fighter, the IS 300 mimics its competition with a powerful 3.0-liter inline-six engine, rear-wheel drive, and a sport-tuned suspension.
This example boasts not only a great color — Solar Yellow, which was offered for just three model years on the IS (2001-2003) — but also a very low 59,959 original miles, a lifelong California ownership history, and just two prior owners (including the current seller).

The only nitpick we have with this car is the asking price. Nearly twenty grand is a heck of a lot for a used IS 300, even one in such great condition. We did a little digging and found that the original owner sought just $10,000 when selling the car back in October 2020. That’s a much more realistic valuation.
If you’re smitten with this one, we’d suggest trying to negotiate the price down by at least $5000 before finalizing the deal.
