2000 Lincoln LS V8 with 27k Miles

For August 4, 2020, our used car find is this 27k mile 2000 Lincoln LS sedan, which is listed on craigslist by a private seller in the Sacramento area for $8900.

Here’s what makes this car special.

Introduction

Introduced in 1999 (as a 2000 model), the Lincoln LS was Ford’s take on the German sports sedan, featuring 50/50 weight balance, a potent V8 engine, and rear-wheel drive.

It launched to great fanfare, earning near-universal praise from the press. In its road test, MotorTrend gushed that the LS was “a well-balanced package that blends all the right ingredients of an entry-level sport/luxury sedan into an attractive whole, with satisfying performance, sports-car-like handling, advanced technology, a comfortable, well-equipped cabin, and excellent value.”

While the LS didn’t exactly steal the luxury sedan crown from BMW or Mercedes-Benz — in fact, it was canceled after a six-year run —  the reimagined Lincoln nevertheless remains a rare bright spot in the struggling automaker’s uneven past.

The Listing

This particular example, in desirable V8 trim, is surely one of the nicest ones out there, with only 27k miles and a single Sacramento-area owner. The seller describes the condition as “pristine” and “like new” and notes that all books and records from new, including the original window sticker, are included in the sale.

We also love the beautiful Graphite Blue exterior paint color, which highlights the car’s still handsome lines and pairs nicely with the new-looking grey leather interior.

While a V6 version was available with a manual gearbox, we think the Jaguar-derived V8 fitted here and mated with a 5-speed automatic is more befitting a luxury cruiser like this. Its 252 hp and 267 ft-lbs of torque should feel adequate in today’s traffic, capable of 0-60 mph in about 7 seconds.

The asking price of $8900 is, unsurprisingly, at the top of the market for one of these. Probably only a serious Lincoln fanatic would be willing to pay that much.

We think $7000-7500 is more realistic. While still not cheap, it would be worth it for such an unusually well-kept specimen of one of Lincoln’s finest cars of the last few decades.
