2002 BMW 525i (E39) with 72k Miles

For June 26, 2020, our used car find is this 72k mile 2002 BMW 525i, which is listed on craigslist by a private seller in the LA area for $3300.

Here’s what makes this car special.

The Listing

Introduced in 1995, the fourth generation 5 Series, aka the E39, is one of the handsomest designs to come from Munich — and one of the last to be considered a true driver’s car. While they came in many different flavors, from the base level shown here to the mighty M5, they all offered a great balance of style, comfort, and performance.

This particular example has relatively few miles and looks outstanding in its unusual Slate Green paint, with distinctive light green leather inside. Though it “only” has the 2.5 liter straight six under the hood, it still puts out 184 smooth hp, which should be plenty for most.

It’s a shame this one doesn’t have a manual gearbox. But most 5 Series from this era were ordered with the 5-speed automatic. Also, the automatic is likely part of the reason why the price here isn’t higher.

The asking price of just $3300 is an absolute bargain for any clean and well-kept car — and especially for one of the better sedans that BMW has ever made.
