2002 Honda Accord EX V6 with 71k Miles

For June 30, 2020, our used car find is this 71k mile 2002 Honda Accord EX V6, which is listed on craigslist by a private seller in Portland, Oregon, area for $6800.

Here’s what makes this car special.

Introduced in 1998, the sixth-generation Accord is one of the last from the peak Honda era of beautifully simple design and functionality. This example comes from the final year of that generation, and so it includes all of the factory upgrades made through the years, including a mid-cycle facelift for 2001 and later models.

In top-of-the-line EX V6 trim, it also comes with all of the bells and whistles available, including leather seats, a sunroof, distinctive alloy wheels, and Honda’s excellent J30A1 3.0 liter V6, which generates 200 hp (vs. 150 hp for the base 2.3 liter four cylinder).

Unfortunately, a manual gearbox was not offered with the V6 Accord, so the price of that additional power is having it delivered through Honda’s four-speed automatic. That gearbox has a reputation for early failures, especially in 2001 and earlier models. To be on the safe side, it would be a good idea to have this one checked out prior to purchase.

This example is one of the nicest we’ve seen in a while. Its 71k miles are of course very low for a nearly 20 year-old car, but the condition looks more like it’s barely left the showroom. The car also enjoys a clean vehicle history report, and the seller reports that everything is in good working order, with a timing belt service having been recently completed.

The asking price of $6800 is on the high side for an old Accord. But given the unusually clean condition, it seems worth the extra cash.
