2005 Infiniti G35 Sedan with 54k Miles and a Manual Gearbox

For July 21, 2021, our used car find is this 2005 Infiniti G35 sedan with just 54k miles and a rare 6-speed manual transmission. It’s offered on Craigslist by a private seller in the Bay Area for $8000 or best offer.

Here’s what makes this one special.

The Listing

Infiniti introduced the G35 to North America for the 2003 model year. Based on the underpinnings of Nissan’s 350Z sports car, the G35 was effectively a 350Z with a back seat. It offered the Z car’s same powerful V6 engine and available manual gearbox in a nimble, rear-drive platform with nearly 50/50 weight balance. Car and Driver named the G35 to their 10Best List for both 2003 and 2004.

With unusually low miles and a longtime California ownership history, this example is nicely-preserved and original. The only modification is an aftermarket shifter, according to the seller. It also benefits from the 2005 model refresh, which included styling updates inside and out, improved interior materials, bigger brakes, and larger (18-inch) wheels.

In the words of the seller…

I’m selling my very rare, well maintained, and low mileage G35 sedan with 6-speed manual transmission. I love this car but I have to let it go due to downsizing of my garage.

Keywords: low mileage, no mechanical issue, well maintained, manual transmission.

A brief history of this car (to the best of my knowledge):
– I’m the 4th owner. I’ve owned it for almost 2 years now, and accumulated 15K miles since then.
– The original owner was a senior citizen who bought the car out of impulse and used the car for weekends. That’s the main reason the car has such a low mileage.
– The 2nd owner was a bodyshop mechanic who lived in Oakland. He took care of the car mostly by himself and owned the car for 1 year.
– I bought this car in November 2019, from the previous owner in Pleasanton. The previous owner was a freelance photographer and mainly used his car for work. The car was super clean (as today) and was in good shape.

Key things that I love about my car:
– Manual transmission. Hard to find.
– Interior. Interior is 10/10. Leather seats are in like-new shape, no scratches anywhere. Personally I also love the simplicity of the interior: no LED screens, no touch screens. Just knobs and buttons. Very elegant.
– Reclined rear seats. In Japan (and eastern culture), rear seats are for the boss. Boss like recline seats so that they can relax. In fact, my wife always sits in the back even there are only the 2 of us in the car.
– Driving performance. I don’t drive crazy but I appreciate the handling and power of this car. It makes you feel confident on the road.
– Everything is original. I don’t want to modify my car in any way. The only thing I’ve changed is getting a Mishimoto shift knob.

Other features that are relevant (to me):
– Black leather seats
– Bose premium sound

Things that I have spent money for since I owned the car:
– Oil change at Wheel Works (mobil-1 5W30, every 3000 miles)
– Transmission fluid change (at Fremont United Auto Service)
– Coolant flush and change (at Jiffy Lube)
– New set of rear tires (Black Hawk performance tires, at a Michelin-certified shop)
– New cabin air filter (I did it myself, easy enough)
– New engine air filter (I did it myself, easy enough)

Things that are not that great (see pictures):
– Paint chips/scratches: there are several of them, but each of them is very small and unnoticeable.
– Driver side mirror – the paint is peeling off and I don’t know why. I think it’s easier to just replace the whole mirror unit.
– Chips on the wheel: a few of them on the rear and noticeable. The damage was done during the tire change but it’s a shame I didn’t notice right after.
– The rubber seal on the edge of the rear left door is a little warped. It doesn’t bother me, but I think it’s worth calling out.

It has a clean title and everything is paid for. The car is in Fremont. Registration paid through July 2022.

Please text me if you have any questions. If you want to see the car, please make sure 1) you have enough cash to purchase 2) you have a driver license 3) you know how to drive a manual car properly.

Thank you for reading and I hope I can find a good owner for my car!

The one thing about this G35 that gives us pause is the peeling paint on the driver side mirror (shown in the photos below). That combined with the fact that the car was formerly owned by a body shop employee could mean that it’s had some body and paintwork done in the past, perhaps as a result of an accident. We suggest having the car inspected by a specialist prior to finalizing the deal just to make sure there aren’t any unwanted surprises.

Assuming everything checks out, we thinking the asking price of $8000 is quite reasonable for a low-mileage specimen with the desirable manual gearbox.
