For September 28, 2021, our used car find is this unusually well-preserved 2006 Dodge Magnum R/T with 55k miles and a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine. It’s offered on Craigslist by a private seller in the Reno area for $10,250 or best offer.
Here’s what makes this one special.
Introduction
The Dodge Magnum debuted for the 2005 model year and had a relatively short production life, ending four years later. Its low-slung, retro profile, penned by famed designer Ralph Gilles, made the big, rear-drive wagon a throwback to classic American family haulers of decades past.
That’s especially true of the R/T version. Pop the hood and you’ll find a massive 5.7-liter Hemi V8 nestled between the suspension towers. It’s good for 340 horsepower and nearly 400 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough to hustle the two-ton wagon to 60 mph in under six seconds.
The Magnum appeared during the Daimler Chrysler era, so it has a fair amount of Mercedes-Benz engineering in it. That’s not a bad thing. It helps to elevate the car’s refinement levels, especially on the road, where it’s quiet, composed, and reasonably athletic. On the other hand, the interior, with lots of cheap, hard plastics, is a bit of a letdown.
Still, that didn’t stop Car and Driver from gushing about it this way at the end of a long-term test, “As a powerful, stylish, and satisfying enthusiast’s alternative to the typical family-hauling choices, the Magnum makes a lot of sense.”

This particular example is one of the nicest we’ve seen in a long time. It boasts just 55k miles and looks practically new inside and out.

There’s not much to critique with this listing. At a hair over ten grand, the price may seem high, but it’s in the right ballpark, according to KBB.
Considering the low miles, the sweet engine, and the dearth of other V8 wagons out there, especially in this price range, we think it seems like an excellent buy.
